Will galvanized steel rust in concrete?

The total life of galvanized steel in concrete is made up of the time taken for the zinc to depassivate, plus the time taken for consumption of the zinc coating, as it sacrificially protects the underlying steel. Only after the coating has been fully consumed in a region of the bar will localized steel corrosion begin.

How poisonous is galvanized steel?
Zinc fumes are set free when galvanised steel is heated. These fumes are very toxic to breathe. Deposits of zinc from the fumes accumulate in the food. Utensils like ladles and galvanized-surfaced pails should not be used for food cooking.
How can you tell if steel is galvanised?
You can tell that metal is galvanized when it has a pattern to it that is known as a spangle pattern. A spangle pattern almost looks like someone dipped a sponge in gray paint and then sponge-painted the metal. You'll notice darker and lighter spots, much like you would see when a wall is sponge painted.
For galvanized steel coils, the steel sheet is immersed in a molten zinc bath to make a sheet of zinc coated on its surface. It is mainly produced by continuous galvanizing process, that is, the rolled steel plate is continuously immersed in a plating tank with zinc melted to make galvanized steel plate; alloyed galvanized steel plate. This kind of steel plate is also manufactured by hot dip method, but immediately after being out of the tank, it is heated to about 500 ℃ to form an alloy coating of zinc and iron. This galvanized coil has good paint adhesion and weldability.
