The Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-E is an Ethernet I/P communication adapter that is compatible for use with PowerFlex 70 and 700 series drives. This adapter directly attached to the drive’s communication adapter slot and provides EtherNet I/P connectivity with data communication rates of 10 Mbps Full Duplex, 10 Mbps Half Duplex, 100 Mbps Full Duplex, and 100 Mbps Half Duplex.

The Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-E is an Ethernet Communication adapter, intended to be used with PowerFlex 70 and 700 series drives. This option adapter enables any PowerFlex drive to connect to Ethernet communication network for monitoring and control functions.

The 20-COMM-E provides Ethernet connectivity with selectable speeds of 10 Mbps Full Duplex, 10 Mbps Half Duplex, 100 Mbps Full Duplex, and 100 Mbps Half Duplex. It is capable of accepting up to Thirty (30) TCP connections or Sixteen (16) simultaneous CIP connections including One (1) exclusive-owner I/O connection. It has a Request Packet Interval (RPI) rate of 5ms, minimum wherein Up to 400 total I/O packets per second (200 in and 200 out) can be handled.

This communication adapter is compliant with UL508C, CAN / CSA C22.2 No. 14-M91, EN50178 and EN61800-3, EN61800-3 specifications. The adapter’s environmental specifications include operating temperature of -10…50 °C (14…122 °F) and storage temperature of 40…85 °C (-40…185 °F) with relative humidity requirement of 5…95% non-condensing. This adapter is not suitable for installation in an environment where the ambient atmosphere has presence of volatile or corrosive gas, vapors or dust.

This communication adapter supports communication with Allen-Bradley controllers such as PLC5, SLC500, MicroLogix 1100 and MicroLogix 1400 controllers. It also supports CompactLogix and ControlLogix controllers. Certain limitations are present when using this adapter with PLC5, MicroLogix and SLC 500 controllers such as slower explicit messaging and some others. It is important to exercise caution when integrating the PowerFlex drive to these controllers.

The Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-E Ethernet/IP adapter requires 350 milliamps of current that can be supplied by the host drive. It has an operating temperature range of -10 to 50 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 5 to 95%. It is also recommended to keep the adapter in an environment that does not contain corrosive vapors, gases, or chemicals.

The Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-E Ethernet/IP adapter can cause radio interference if it is installed in a domestic environment. This adapter has a height of 19 millimeters, a width of 78.5 millimeters, a length of 86 millimeters, and weighs 85 grams.

The Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-E Ethernet/IP adapter is attached to the drive communication slot. It is recommended to install add-on cards when the drive is powered-off.
