The Steam Activation Furnace is mainly used for steam activation of several different type of materials, such as coconut shell charcoal, palm shell charcoal, apricot shell charcoal, peach shell charcoal, walnut shell charcoal, bamboo charcoal, and hard miscellaneous charcoal. The process of steam activation starts by reheating the material at a sustained high temperature within a certain temperature range, while air isolation can be maintained. The material is then brought into a steam section of the activation furnace. A small amount of high-temperature water vapor is sprayed instantaneously onto the surface of the material, resulting in the rapid expansion and opening of the pores. The reaction of the steam and the material leads to further enlargement and deeper penetration of the pores, ultimately creating a porous activated carbon.

The following figure illustrates an activated carbon activation furnace. This set-up is made up of various systems such as the feeding system, the converter high-temperature heating system, the steam system, the flue gas treatment system as well as the cooling system.

The carbonized material is conveyed to the furnace to be subject to high-temperature heating. When it reaches a certain temperature, a certain amount of water vapor is sprayed on its surface so that holes can be created in the carbonized material during the high-temperature process, thus forming the activated carbon product.

Finally, the activated carbon product is cooled down by the cooling system before being packaged and stored.

• φ 1.5m * 15m: activated carbon production: 2-3 tpd
• φ 2.2m * 15m: activated carbon production: 3-4 tpd
• φ 2.0m * 18m: activated carbon production: 4-5 tpd
• φ 2.2m * 20m: activated carbon production: 5-6 tpd

Generally, it takes 2-3 tons of charcoal to produce 1 ton of finished activated carbon.
