Myoglobin (Myo) is a type of hemoglobin found in the cytoplasm of heart muscle and skeletal muscle, but not in smooth muscle. Myoglobin is detectable in the blood about 1 to 2 hours after a heart attack and is one of the earliest indicators of increased myocardial damage. Myo is abundant in myocardium and skeletal muscle and is released rapidly into the blood during AMI. Very sensitive to AMI.

The myoglobin molecule is a flat prism with a molecular size of 4.5mm × 3.5mm × 2.5m. The peptide backbone of the molecule consists of eight linear A-helices of different lengths. The longest spiral consists of 23 stumps and 7 shortest stumps. Almost 80% of the amino acids are in the α-helix region of the molecule called A, B, C... H. The corresponding non-helical peptides are terminal Na, AB, BC,... . Fg, GH, HC (C-terminal node) so every remaining sequence has an ordinal number computed from the N-terminal. Additional numbers are provided in addition to the position of each helix segment. For example, the 93rd HIS is encoded as F8, indicating that HIS is in the 8th bit of the F helix.
