What is the Air Suspension Air Compressor all about?
Air suspension is a type of vehicle suspension powered by an electric or engine-driven air pump or compressor. This compressor pumps the air into a flexible bellows, usually made from textile-reinforced rubber. Unlike hydropneumatic suspension, which offers many similar features, air suspension does not use pressurized liquid, but pressurized air. The air pressure inflates the bellows, and raises the chassis from the axle.
Air Suspension Air Compressor Function
An air compressor is a machine that uses an electric motor or gas engine to power a device that sucks in successive volumes of air from the atmosphere, compresses (squeezes) each volume of air in a confined place to increase its pressure by making the volume smaller, and then transfers the high-pressure air to a receiver tank, The high-pressure air is drawn off from the receiver tank to power equipment.
Air Suspension Air Compressor Work
The air system works by pumping compressed air into air bags or springs made of textile-reinforced rubber via compressed air lines. The air compressor is an electric or engine-driven pump that’s usually attached to the car frame and found under the hood. It draws in outside air, compresses it, and uses the compressed air to fill the air springs to “lift” the vehicle’s chassis from the axle.
Aside from being the main part of an air system, air compressors are also coupled with air tanks in some vehicles. This allows the driver to inflate tires when driving off-road, for example. Air compressors can also be used to re-seat a tire that has slipped off of its rim. Air compressors also have a number of other pneumatic-type applications like maintaining the PSI for air horns, etc.
Air Compressor Use For
Air compressors are found in a wide range of environments for an even wider range of uses. You’ll see gas stations offering compressed air to inflate your vehicle’s tires and your tire shop using compressed air with an air tool to remove your tires. You may have seen small desktop air compressors used with an airbrush or a trailer-style gas-powered air compressor at a construction site powering jackhammers and concrete compactors.
One of the first and most common symptoms of a problem with the air suspension compressor is a noticeably lower vehicle ride height.
If the compressor is worn or is having a problem, it may not be able to adequately inflate the air bags and the vehicle may sit and ride noticeably lower as a result.
Another symptom and a more serious issue is a compressor that does not come on.
Most air systems are self-regulated and turn the compressor on and off automatically. This largely depends on your system’s requirements. If your compressor won’t turn on or function like normal, it’s a sign that there’s a problem.
One of the most noticeable symptoms of a potential problem with the compressor is abnormal noises during operation.
If the compressor is allowed to continuously operate with abnormal sounds, it may eventually result in damage to the compressor that will cause it to fail.
What is air suspension?
As a starting point, it is important to discuss what is air suspension and how does it differ from traditional suspension systems? The main difference between a traditional shock or strut is that they have a dampening mechanism set to a certain ride control feel while an air suspension system uses an air compressor in combination with air struts and suspension air bags to control the feel of the ride.
HONGGU Air suspension has several advantages over traditional shocks and struts. The first is that the ride quality is often controlled by the driver of the vehicle. Therefore, if you want a softer ride you can set your air suspension system to deliver that and vice versa if you are looking for a stiffer, rougher ride. The second advantage is that you can control ride height, some systems are advanced in that they automatically control this for you. The final advantage of an air suspension system is weight management. If you load the back of your SUV with a large amount of groceries from the store, the air suspension system either automotically adjusts to handle it or you can manually adjust it. For traditional shocks and struts the level of rebound is set and therefore no matter what the weight of your load is, you have to stick with it. This often creates a sagging rear end when carrying a heavy load.
Air Struts Work
How do air struts work? An air suspension system is a style of vehicle suspension that's powered by an electric pump or compressor that pumps air into flexible bellows that are typically made out of a textile-reinforced type of rubber. ... A compressor inflates the bags to a certain pressure in order to behave like springs.
Air Pring Feature
1. Correct distribution of all tire weights can improve steering, braking and tire wear.
2. Eliminate the vibration of the axle and wheels caused by the road surface, ensure that the wheels grip the ground at any time, thereby ensuring the steering and braking functions of the vehicle and improving the safety of the vehicle.
3. Absorb bumps and keep the tires on the road for better handling.
4. To prevent the heavy vehicles from damaging other parts.
5. The off-road performance of the vehicle can be improved even in extreme weather, and the noise is low, the friction is small, and the service life is long.
Installation:
1. Remove the Front Driver Side tire
2. Remove the Driver Side Wheel Fender Liner
3. Remove the Hardware holding the old compressor
4. Disconnect the Rubber Air Intake Line
5. Disconnect the Air Line
6. Disconnect the Electrical Cables
7. Remove the old compressor
8. Use the Old Rubber Bushings to the new compressor
9. Install the new compressor
