Thermocouple extension Cable Type k 20 AWG with ANSI colour code yellow and red
Thermocouple wire is available in either thermocouple grade or extension grade. Extension grade wire is recommended for use in connecting thermocouples to the sensing or control equipment. The conditions of measurement determine the type of thermocouple wire and insulation to be used. Temperature range, environment, insulation requirements, response and service life should be considered.

When investigating the best high temperature cable for your requirements, be sure to examine conductor listings. For thermocouple wire, conductors are designated by a "Type" labeling that refers to the materials used in the wire. For example, Type K Thermocouple Wire refers to “Chromel/Alumel” and Type T Thermocouple Wire refers to “Copper/Constantan.”

Type K and Type T are suitable for diverse measuring applications. Type K thermocouple wire, widely popular, is designated as general-purpose and is usually low cost. Type T thermocouple wire is commonly preferred for uses such as electrical generators. Type K and Type T are just a sampling of the styles of high temperature cable that we offer. Although these our are most frequently requested types, we carry other styles, including Type N and Type J. Type N Wire is made with Nicrosil/Nisil and Type J Wire is made with Iron/Constantan.
