CuNi6 alloy wire is a type of copper-nickel alloy wire. Here are its main characteristics and properties:

1. Composition: It is a copper-nickel alloy with approximately 94% copper and 6% nickel.

2. Physical properties:

  • Density: It has a density of about 8.9 g/cm³.
  • Resistivity: The electrical resistivity at 20 °C is 0.1 Ω·mm²/m, which is relatively higher than that of pure copper, making it suitable for certain resistance applications.
  • Melting point: The melting point is around 1095 °C.
  • Coefficient of thermal expansion: From 20 °C to 400 °C, the coefficient of thermal expansion is 17.5 × 10⁻⁶ /K.
  • Specific heat capacity: At 20 °C, the specific heat capacity is 0.380 J/gK

​3. Mechanical properties:

  • Strength: It has a yield strength of 110 MPa and a tensile strength of 250 MPa (for a 1.0 mm sample), showing relatively good mechanical strength.
  • Elongation: The elongation is 25% (for a 1.0 mm sample), indicating a certain degree of ductility.

4. Other properties:

  • Temperature resistance: It can be used at temperatures up to 220 °C and has good stability at high temperatures.
  • Magnetic properties: It is non-magnetic.
  • Corrosion resistance: It has good corrosion resistance in the atmosphere at 20 °C, but the corrosion resistance is relatively poor in some specific gas environments such as those containing sulfur.

5. The main uses of CuNi6 alloy wire are as follows:
  • Electrical heating applications:
    • Heating cables: CuNi6 alloy wire is suitable for making heating cables due to its relatively stable electrical and thermal properties. It can be used in areas such as floor heating, snow melting systems, and heat tracing in industrial pipelines to maintain a certain temperature.
    • Electric blankets and heating mats: It is used in the production of low-temperature electric blankets and heating mats, providing a gentle and uniform heating effect.
  • Resistance wire in electrical components: Given its higher resistance than pure copper and good tensile strength, it is an ideal choice for use as a resistance wire in various electrical components, such as low-voltage circuit breakers and thermal overload relays. It helps to control and limit the current in the circuit, protecting the electrical equipment from overcurrent damage.
  • Thermocouple elements: In some thermocouple applications, CuNi6 alloy wire can be used as one of the constituent materials to measure temperature accurately due to its specific thermoelectric properties.
  • Industrial manufacturing and processing:
    • Metal processing: It can be used in metal heat treatment processes to provide a stable high-temperature environment for heating metal materials, helping to improve the metal's mechanical properties and microstructure.
    • Welding and brazing: CuNi6 alloy wire can be used as a filler material in certain welding and brazing processes, providing good bonding strength and corrosion resistance.
