What is zinc die casting?
Zinc die casting is a metal casting process characterized by pressing molten metal into a cavity. The cavity is created using two hardened tool steel molds, which are processed into the final shape or close to the final shape of the zinc die casting. The zinc die-casting process can make the product have high precision and repeatability. The zinc die casting process can also produce fine details, such as textured surfaces or names, without further processing.
How to make zinc die castings?
A steel mold capable of producing thousands of zinc castings in rapid succession must be manufactured in at least two parts in order to remove the castings. These parts are firmly installed in the machine and arranged in one fixed (fixed mold half) and the other movable (injection mold half). To start the casting cycle, the two mold halves are clamped together by a die casting machine. The molten zinc alloy is injected into the mold cavity and rapidly solidifies. Open the mold half and eject the zinc casting. Zinc die-casting molds can be simple or complex, with movable sliders, cores or other parts, depending on the complexity of the casting.
So far, the complete cycle of zinc die casting is the fastest cycle for the production of precision zinc parts. This is in sharp contrast to sand casting, which requires a new sand mold for every casting. Although the permanent mold process uses iron or steel molds instead of sand, it is much slower and less precise than zinc die castings.
