Product Summary:

The novel coronaviruses belong to the β genus. COVID-19 is an acute respiratory infectious disease. People are generally susceptible. Currently, the patients infected by the novel coronavirus are the main source of infection; asymptomatic infected people can also be an infectious source. Based on the current epidemiological investigation, the incubation period is 1 to 14 days, mostly 3 to 7 days. The main manifestations include fever, fatigue and dry cough. Nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat, myalgia and diarrhea are found in a few cases.

Speciment collection and preparation:

The test can be performed with venous whole blood, serum, plasma and fingerstick whole blood,.

For Venous Whole Blood:

1.According to standard venous blood collection procedure, collect a venipuncture whole blood specimen using a blood collection tube with suitable anticoagulant (containing EDTA, Heparin or Citrated sodium). Other anticoagulants have not been validated and may give incorrect result.

2.It is recommended that whole blood specimen is tested at the time of specimen collection. If the specimens are not tested immediately, they may be stored at 2～8ºC for up to 3 days. Prior to testing, mix the blood by gentle inversion several times, do not freeze or heat whole blood specimens.

For Serum and Plasma:

1.According to standard venous blood collection procedure, collect a venipuncture whole blood specimen using a blood collection tube. If collecting plasma use a blood collection tube containing suitable anticoagulant (containing EDTA, Heparin or Citrated sodium). Other anticoagulants have not been validated and may give incorrect result.

2.Separate the serum/plasma from blood as soon as possible to avoid hemolysis.

3.Test should be performed within 8 hours after the specimens have been collected. Do not leave the specimens at room temperature for prolonged periods. Serum or plasma specimens may be stored at 2～8ºC for up to 7 days prior to testing. Serum or plasma specimens may be stored at -20ºC for up to 30 days.

For Fingerstick Whole Blood:

1. Wash the patient’s hand with soap and warm water, or clean the finger with an alcohol pad. Allow to dry.

2. Massage the hand without touching the puncture site by rubbing down the hand towards the fingertip of the middle or ring finger.

3. Puncture the skin with a sterile lancet. Wipe away the first sign of blood.

4. Collect and add the Fingerstick Whole Blood specimen to the test cassette by using a soft capillary, or micropipette measuring 10ul. The soft capillary provided with the test dispenses approximately 10ul in one drop even if more blood is aspirated in the soft capillary.

5. Testing should be performed immediately after specimen collection.

Note: Bring specimens to room temperature before testing. Frozen specimens must be completely thawed and mixed well prior to testing. Specimens should not be frozen and thawed repeatedly. Severe hemolytic or heat-inactivated specimens are not recommended.
