Commutator Application

The Commutator is mainly used for DC motor ,generator, series motor, universal motor.

In an electric motor, the commutator applies current to the windings. The direction of the current in the rotating winding is twisted every half turn to produce a stable rotating moment.

In a generator, the commutator reverses the direction of current with each turn and acts as a mechanical rectifier to convert alternating current in the windings to unidirectional direct current in the external load circuit.
