What is picosulfate sodium?

Sodium sulphate is a contact laxative used to treat constipation or to prepare the large intestine before colonoscopy or surgery.

Orally administered sodium pyridine sulfate is commonly used to completely empty the intestines and is typically used in patients who are ready for colonoscopy. It works very fast, so it is recommended to enter the toilet at any time. It makes the bowel movements looser and more frequent, but the patient should experience diarrhea after taking an hour or so.

Funtion of picosulfate sodium:

Orally administered sodium pyridine sulfate is commonly used to completely empty the intestines and is typically used in patients who are ready for colonoscopy. It takes 12-24 hours to work because it works in the colon.

Abdominal hernia and diarrhea are the normal effects of picosulfate and should be expected.

The use of sodium pyrithione is also associated with certain electrolyte disorders, such as hyponatremia and hypokalemia. Patients are typically required to drink large amounts of clear liquid and rehydrate to reestablish electrolyte balance.
