End mill Roughing or finishing: There are different types of milling, some end mills can be used to remove a large number of materials, leaving a coarse milling surface (rough milling), some can remove a smaller amount of materials, but leaving a fine surface(finishing milling). The roughing end mill may have serrated teeth on the flutes for breaking the material fragments into smaller pieces. Finishing end mills can have 4 or more flutes for careful removal of material. However, end mills with more flutes have less room for effective chip removal, so they are not suitable for roughing milling which requires fast chip removal capability unless there are teeth on the flutes.
