Product Description:

A biogas plant, also known as an anaerobic digester, is a facility used to capture and treat farm waste and energy crops. It consists of an air-tight tank plumbed into different configurations, and can be fed with a variety of materials, such as maize silage, food waste, and sewage sludge. Through the process of anaerobic digestion, bacteria is used to convert the material into biogas, a mixture that primarily contains methane and carbon dioxide.

When mixed with other biodegradable materials, such as residuals from the dairy, sugar, and brewery industries, biogas production can be increased significantly. In one experiment, combining 90 percent of brewery wastewater with 10 percent cow whey resulted in biogas production increasing by 2.5 times.

Nevertheless, generating biogas from intentionally planted maize can be highly detrimental to the environment. Consequently, this method of biogas production has been widely considered to be unsustainable, as the information and soil eroding processes linked to these plantations can be intense and concentrated.
