There are many features of SV(R) pumps that are very different. The sump pump has a flooded [wet end" installed at the end of a cantilever shaft (no submerged bearings) and a dry drive.
The two main reasons for development of the vertical Slurry pumps were: To utilize dry motors, protected from flooding; To eliminate sealing problems.

In the vertical design where the cantilever is extremely long the first bearing arrangement is used.
