Product Description:

Silicon carbide is a compound with the chemical formula SiC. It is produced by melting together quartz sand, petroleum coke or coal coke, wood chips (with the addition of salt for the production of green silicon carbide) and other raw materials in a furnace at high temperatures. It is also known as electrolon sand or refractory sand. Silicon carbide can be classified into two types: black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide. They both have a hexagonal crystal structure with a specific gravity of 3.20~3.25g/cm3 and a Mohs hardness of 9.5. The production of silicon carbide involves various chemical processes. Black silicon carbide contains about 98.5% SiC and has higher toughness compared to green silicon carbide.
