Greaseproof paper is a type of paper that is impermeable to oil and grease, making it ideal for food packaging and cooking applications. It is typically produced by refining base paper, which results in a paper with very low porosity. The density is further increased through a process known as hard calendering (or super calendering), resulting in a product often referred to as cellophane. Cellophane is created by filling the pores with starch, alginate, or carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) during a pulp press process, or by chemically treating the paper to enhance its oil resistance. The basis weight of greaseproof paper generally ranges from 30 to 90 g/m².
Food Safety: Greaseproof paper is typically manufactured from food-grade materials and adheres to food safety regulations. It does not transfer any harmful substances to food, thereby ensuring the quality and safety of the food.
Versatility: Greaseproof paper is available in various thicknesses and sizes to suit different applications. It can be used to wrap, line, or separate food items, and it is also suitable for crafting and baking.
Eco-Friendly Options: Many greaseproof papers now offer eco-friendly or compostable alternatives. These papers are crafted from sustainable materials and are biodegradable, thereby minimizing their impact on the environment.
Greaseproof paper can be printed with food-safe inks, enabling branding and customization. This feature makes it a popular choice for food packaging, where branding and product information are often essential.

The surface of the paper is shiny like oil-free paper. It is mainly used to place under food when baking bread, cakes, and biscuits to keep the baking tray clean. Its function is to prevent oil for a certain period of time.
