At the end of the corner ridge of the building in the Song Dynasty, it is often in the shape of a
man's head and a bird's body standing, and a lot of them have been unearthed in the ruins of
the tombs of the Western Xia Dynasty. In Song paintings, we often see that there is no crouching
beast after the concubines.
In the Song paintings "Tengwang Pavilion" and "Yellow Crane Tower", the concubines at the end
of the ridge are followed by four squatting beasts. The practice of using even numbers for the
number of squatting beasts in the Song Dynasty was the opposite of the odd number of one, three,
five, seven and nine for beasts in the later Qing Dynasty.
