Traditional Japanese House Roofing Material Chinese Clay Roof Tiles

The Zhou Dynasty invented the roof tile. In the middle and late Western Zhou Dynasty, the
buildings on Zhouyuan (now Fufeng, Shaanxi) have been used for Chinese roof tiles. During
the Warring States Period, the increasingly developed urban construction industry led to the
development of brick and tile pottery craftsmanship.

The original Chinese roof tile was semi-circular, called semi-circular tile, and the tile in the Qin

Dynasty developed from a semi-circle to a full-circle. In the Han Dynasty, round tiles were popular.

The production of wadang in the Han Dynasty was more prosperous than that in the Warring States

Period. Most of the famous palace buildings have pottery kilns for firing bricks and roof tiles,

which are specially designed and produced.
