Custom Sheet Metal Fabrication Laser Cutting Services CNC Machining Bending and Cutting Services
What is CNC bending?
CNC bending, also known as CNC forming, is the process of reshaping sheet metal from a flat shape. Using CNC bending technology, you can produce almost any component design. A basic example of this is creating a 90 degree bend that turns a flat sheet of metal into an "L" shaped bracket
CNC stands for "Computer Numerical Control". This means that computer software translates your designs into codes or numbers, and it is these codes that control the press brake
Machines used for CNC bending are called CNC bending machines (or brake presses). They can convert sheet metal with dimensions ranging from a few millimeters to several meters long

What is involved in the CNC bending process?
The bending machine consists of a bottom bed and a top rail or beam. A V-shaped (or die) is located on the bottom bed and a punch tool is located on the top rail. The size and angle of the V-shape and punch depend on the thickness of the sheet metal to be used and the desired bend geometry. After the machine is running, the punch presses the metal into the V and forms the shape
Modern machines usually have a fixed bed and a top rail with a down stroke, although some are constructed in the opposite way, where the bed moves in the direction of the up stroke. Either way you can get the same result
CNC press brakes have a programmable console where data (numbers) can be entered. This controls the position of the tailgate, which in turn controls the height and length of each bend. It also quickly changes the height between the bottom bed and top rail, allowing you to easily remove parts after molding. The beauty of this technology is that once the console is programmed, you can accurately repeat multiple bends (with a tolerance of a few microns)
