PCD (Polycrystalline Diamond) is a synthetic diamond product that is produced by sintering together selected diamond particles with a metal matrix, using sophisticated technology. The diamond and matrix, when sintered together under high temperatures and pressures, creates a PCD tool blank that is high in uniform hardness and is abrasive resistant in all directions. PCD Inserts is made of PCD tips( cutting from PCD blank) and a carbide substrate.

In ultra-precision machining, the main factors to ensure the quality of the machined surface are not only high-precision machine tools and ultra-stable machining environment, but also high quality cutting tools. Natural diamond has high hardness, good wear resistance, high strength, good thermal conductivity, low friction coefficient with non-ferrous metals, good adhesion resistance and excellent corrosion resistance and chemical stability. It can grind out extremely sharp blades and is considered as the most ideal tool material for ultra-precision cutting. It has an important position in the field of mechanical processing, especially in the field of ultra-precision machining and has been widely used.
In ultra-precision machining, the two basic precision of single crystal diamond tool are the precision of blade profile and the blunt circle radius of cutting edge. It is required that the roundness of the cutting edge of the circular cutting tool for machining aspheric lens should be less than 0.05μm, and the straightness of the cutting edge for machining the polyhedral mirror should be 0.02μm. The blunt radius (ρ value) of the cutting edge of the tool indicates the sharpness of the cutting edge of the tool. In order to adapt to various machining requirements, the radius of the cutting edge of the blade ranges from 20nm to 1μm.

Because there are some residual bonded metals and graphite among diamond particles, the bonded metals in the coalescence state or veined distribution will reduce the wear resistance and life of the tool. In addition, there are residual solvent metals, which are in direct contact with the diamond surface.

·PCBN has strong chemical properties and will not react with ferrous metals at high temperature.
· The red hardness of CBN can reach 1370°C, almost twice that of diamond: at 800°C, the hardness of CBN is higher than that of hard alloy, ceramics and PCD at room temperature. Therefore, the cutting speed of CBN cutting tool can be higher than carbide, ceramic tool 2-5 times, with extremely high cutting efficiency.
· The wear resistance of CBN is 5-10 times that of coated hard alloy and 3-5 times that of ceramics, with extremely high life.

The hardness of cubic boron nitride (CBN) is second only to PCD and single crystal diamond. It can maintain the hardness of cemented carbide at 25 ℃ at 1000 ℃. The high strength of CBN comes from its intergranular bond. With the hardness alloy matrix with good hardness and toughness, the tool made of it can bear great cutting force when deep cutting high hardness and toughness materials, and the intergranular bond can also provide high impact strength, which is very necessary when cutting continuous and discontinuous sections.
