Diamond tools have the characteristics of high hardness, high compressive strength, good thermal conductivity and wear resistance, etc., which can obtain high machining accuracy and efficiency in high speed cutting.
The above characteristics of diamond cutting tools are determined by the crystal state of diamond.
In diamond crystal, four valence electrons of carbon atoms are bonded according to tetrahedral structure, and each carbon atom forms covalent bond with four adjacent atoms, thus forming diamond structure. The binding force and directivity of this structure are very strong, so that diamond has a very high hardness.
Because the structure of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) is fine grain diamond sintered body with different orientations, its hardness and wear resistance are still lower than that of single crystal diamond despite the addition of binders.
However, because the PCD sintered body is isotropic, it is not easy to crack along a single cleavage plane.

PCD (Polycrystalline Diamond) is a synthetic diamond product that is produced by sintering together selected diamond particles with a metal matrix, using sophisticated technology. The diamond and matrix, when sintered together under high temperatures and pressures, creates a PCD tool blank that is high in uniform hardness and is abrasive resistant in all directions. PCD Inserts is made of PCD tips( cutting from PCD blank) and a carbide substrate.

PCD(Polycrystalline Diamond)is a synthesized, extremely tough, intergroup mass of randomly orientated diamond particles in a metal matrix. It is produced by sintering together selected diamond particles at high pressure and temperature.
