Transmission, also known as gearbox, is a mechanism used to change the speed and torque from the engine, which can fix or shift the output shaft and input shaft transmission ratio. The transmission is composed of a variable speed transmission mechanism and a control mechanism, and some cars have a power output mechanism. Most of the transmission mechanisms are driven by ordinary gears, and some are driven by planetary gears. The common gear transmission mechanism generally uses sliding gear and synchronizer. Basic terminology for gears:
(1) Driving gear, driven gear. The input shaft can be understood to be connected with the clutch and rotated under the engine drive, and the gear fixed on the input shaft synchronously rotates, the gear is called the drive gear, and then the gear connected with the output shaft is forced to rotate, so the gear is called the driven gear.
(2) Transmission ratio i. The ratio of the number of teeth of the driven gear to the number of teeth of the driving gear is defined as the transmission ratio.
When the relationship between the number of teeth of the driven gear and the number of teeth of the driving gear changes, the transmission ratio i changes, and under the condition that the engine speed is unchanged, the output shaft speed changes, that is, the wheel speed changes. A pair of meshing gears, the number of teeth in use will not change, so its transmission ratio is fixed. (3) Forward gear, the gear that enables the car to move forward. Reverse gear, the gear that makes a car go backwards. In neutral, all gears in the transmission are not in the working position, and the engine power is no longer transmitted to the output shaft after being input to the input shaft.
(4) Direct file. The engine power is not transmitted by any gear in the transmission, but is directly output by the transmission input shaft and the output shaft directly connected with it as one gear. The direct gear ratio is 1.
