Coated steel plates have the advantages of being lightweight, aesthetically pleasing, and having good corrosion resistance. They can also be directly processed, providing a new type of raw material for industries such as construction, shipbuilding, vehicle manufacturing, furniture industry, electrical industry and more. It has achieved good results in replacing wood with steel, saving energy and preventing pollution. Color-coated steel plates based on galvanized steel sheets not only have zinc protection but also have a covering isolation effect from the color coating layer on top of the zinc layer which prevents rusting of the steel plate. The service life is longer than that of galvanized steel plates. According to reports, the service life of coated steel plates is 50% longer than that of galvanized ones when using equal amounts of zinc plating and same coatings thicknesses in different regions or usage areas.

However, there will be significant differences in their service lives when using color-coated panels with identical zinc plating levels, same coatings types and thicknesses in different regions or usage areas. For example: In industrial zones or coastal areas where they are exposed to sulfur dioxide gas or salt content in air causing faster corrosion rates leading to shorter lifespan; during rainy seasons where prolonged exposure to rainwater causes faster corrosion especially at locations prone to condensation due to large temperature fluctuations resulting in reduced lifespan.

Buildings or factories made from colored coated-steel panels tend to last longer if frequently washed by rainwater; otherwise they may be affected by sulfur dioxide gas emissions as well as salt and dust particles reducing their lifespan. Therefore during design phase it's important consider roof slope angles since steeper slopes accumulate less dust particles hence increasing its longevity while regular washing should be done for those areas not frequently washed by rainwater.
