In most forced lubrication systems, the filter is located behind the pump and in front of critical machine components.This position presents several problems for the filter.The first problem is velocity. Normally, the filter at this point in the system must handle 100% of the flow from the pump.
If the machine requires a large amount of oil to operate reliably, the filter must be large enough to handle the flow.This can be achieved by increasing the surface area of the medium or changing the medium type to use a smaller fiber medium.
The filter must also be able to withstand pressure. The pressure from the pump causes the fluid to push through the hole at a high speed, which creates a weak spot in the filter. Collapse of the center tube, blown out of the medium and joint and failure of the end cover adhesive are only a few potential problems. The solution is to use more powerful filters, which usually means higher costs.
The average strength of the lubricating system filter is higher than that of the typical hydraulic filter on the return pipeline.
When installed on a low pressure return line, these filters do not need to be made of a reinforced center pipe, sandwich medium, or thicker casing.
