DFO stock solution

Purpose

Develop sweat fingerprints and blood fingerprints on porous surface, especially for sweat fingerprints on complex background. First, develop the fingerprints with DFO; if the result is unsatisfactory, improve it with ninhydrin.

Description

The DFO solution is composed of solution A and solution B. Seal the prepared solution A in an ampule, and encapsulate the ampule with a plastic sleeve. When using, mix solution A and solution B (trichlorotrifluoroethane or petroleum ether) in proportion. Solution A can be stored for several years.

Method

Crush the ampule with special pliers or hammer, then the solution flows out but is still sealed in the plastic sleeve. Then, cut the top of the plastic sleeve with scissors. Pour 11ml of the solution in a small beaker, then add 39ml of trichlorotrifluoroethane or petroleum ether to prepare 50ml of DFO working solution. Put the working solution into the tray to develop the fingerprints on the paper. 50ml of DFO working solution can develop 5 A4 papers.

Development effect

Many comparative experiments have shown that the detection rate of fingerprints development with DFO is higher than that of ninhydrin.

Add petroleum ether with boiling point of 30-60 to prepare 50ml solution

Saturate the exhibit with the prepared solution

Put the volatilized exhibit into the DFO fuming chamber for treatment
