Matrix Body PDC Drill Bit 8-1/2 " Diamond Rock Drilling Tool of Oilfield
1. Description :
Matrix-body PDC bits are commonly preferred over steel-body bits for environments in which body erosion is likely to cause a bit to fail. For diamond-impregnated bits, only matrix-body construction can be used . No matter PDC steel body bit or Matrix body bit are the PDC Bit.
Matrix-body Construction: Matrix-body PDC bits are constructed using a tungsten carbide material that is formed by consolidating tungsten carbide powder in a metallic binder. This construction provides a more resistant and erosion-tolerant body compared to steel-body bits.
Preferable in Erosive Environments: Matrix-body PDC bits are commonly preferred over steel-body bits in environments where erosion is a concern. The matrix material is more resilient to erosive forces, reducing the likelihood of bit failure due to erosion.
Exclusive for Diamond-Impregnated Bits: For diamond-impregnated bits, only matrix-body construction can be used. This is because the matrix material allows for the embedding of diamonds within the bit, enhancing cutting capabilities and wear resistance.

3. Bit Profile
4. Drill Bit PDC Cutters
Polycrystalline Diamond Composite (PDC) cutters are the main point of contact for a drill bit. PDC bits remove the rock mainly by shearing.
The PDC cutters are exposed to a lot of heating and cooling down the well, a very challenging environment.
PDC cutters that have lower thermal degradation and more thermal stability generally achieve higher ROP and increased wear resistance. So, optimizing the cutter is important.
5 . Drill Bit Nozzles
Drill bit nozzles help clear the cutting area and cool the Polycrystalline Diamond Composite (PDC) cutters.
Effective placement of these nozzles along with the angle they are set at plays a critical role on how efficient the drill bit performs.
Fluid channels also complement nozzle placement to improve the clearing of cuttings.
6. Matrix Body
Matrix is a very hard, rather brittle complex material containing tungsten carbide grains bonded with a softer, tougher, metallic binder.
The hardness of a matrix-body PDC has the benefit of not being susceptible to abrasion and erosion. It is effective in tolerating high compressive loads, but, compared with steel, has low resistance to impact loading.
Matrix-body PDC bits are relatively diverse, because matrix is a compounded material.
In environments in which body erosion is likely to cause a bit to fail, matrix-body PDC are the preference over steel-body bits. For diamond-impregnated bits, only matrix-body construction can be used.
