Based on the integration of Bauer, Soilmec and IMT interlocking kelly bars,we studied one big (multi) interlocking kelly bar,which have applied for patents. This kind kelly bar has the following advantages:

(1) The pressurized area is increased, which is 3-4 times the pressurized area of other type kelly bars;

• The pressurized force is evenly distributed, avoiding long-term concentrated stress the phenomenon of premature breakage of the kelly bars so effectively prolongs the service life of the drill pipes;
• The stability of kelly bars when during the drilling process is more better due to the pressure at multiple points, which avoids the the phenomenon of drilling offset, inclined hole or expanding hole.

The practice has shown that, this big (multi) interlocking kelly bar has more advantage of increased pressurized area, extended pressurized linear distance, uniform force distribution, and better drilling stability rather than the original interlocking type kelly bars.
