1. Introduction

Mechanical impact (IK) coding, or international mechanical protection, is the degree of protection an enclosure provides against harmful external mechanical impacts such as vandalism or accidental contact.
IK Impact protection testing is performed against the requirements of IEC / EN 62262 Degrees of protection provided by enclosures for electrical equipment against external mechanical impacts (IK code). It provides evidence of the suitability of the enclosure for its intended environment. IK codes are used to identify the impact energy applied, ranging from 0.14J to 20J (IK01 to IK10).
