What is Nickel-Cadmium Battery?
The nickel-cadmium battery (Ni-Cd battery or NiCad battery) is a rechargeable battery that uses nickel oxide and the metal cadmium as electrodes.
It is a device that produces a direct current voltage based on a chemical reaction between related substances. In nickel-cadmium cells, the REDOX material is used as the base and a nickel layer and separator are used around it. Nickel-cadmium batteries have a voltage of about 1.2 V. When in series, usually 3 or 4 cells are packed together for a 3.6 to 4.8V output.
What is the Principle of Nickel-Cadmium Battery?
As a nickel cadmium battery pack supplier, share with you. The active material on the positive plate of nickel-cadmium battery consists of nickel oxide powder and graphite powder. Graphite does not take part in chemical reactions. Its main role is to enhance electrical conductivity. The active substance on the negative plate is composed of cadmium oxide powder and iron oxide powder. The role of iron oxide powder is to make cadmium oxide powder has a higher diffusion coefficient, prevent caking, increase the plate capacity. The active material is wrapped in the perforated steel strip, which is pressed and formed into the positive and negative plates of the battery. Plates are separated by alkali resistant hard rubber insulation rods or perforated PVC corrugated plates. The electrolyte is usually a potassium hydroxide solution. Compared with other batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries have a moderate self-discharge rate, or the rate of charge loss when the battery is not in use. Nickel-cadmium batteries are charged if they are not fully discharged during use.
Nickel-cadmium battery features:
The maximum discharge rate of nickel-cadmium batteries varies by size. For ordinary aa sized batteries, the maximum discharge rate is about 1.8 amps; The D-size battery can discharge up to 3.5 amps.
Ni-Cd Battery Cell Performance:
1. Ni-Cd Cell Charge Curve At 0.1C For 16h At 55 Degree
2. Ni-Cd Cell Discharge Curve At 0.25C At 55 Degree
3. Ni-Cd Cell Charge Efficiency At Different Temperature
4. Ni-Cd Cell Capacity Change At Permanent Charge At 55 Degree (0.05C Floating)
5. Ni-Cd Cell Cycle Life Curve
