The cylinder liner is a cylindrical part, which is placed in the cylinder block hole of the engine block and fixed by the cylinder head.

The piston moves back and forth in its inner hole, The functions of the cylinder liner are as follows:
1. The working space of cylinder is composed of cylinder head and piston.
2. The cylinder liner of cylinder piston diesel engine bears the side thrust of piston and becomes the reciproCATEEEEEEEEEEing lead of piston.
3. Transfer the heat of piston assembly and itself to cooling water to make it work at proper temperature.
4. The cylinder liner of two-stroke diesel engine is equipped with air port, which is opened and closed by piston to realize valve distribution.

The cylinder liner has enough strength, rigidity, heat resistance and good wear resistance. Wear resistant alloy cast iron containing phosphorus or boron is used as material, such as ht25-47, HP cucrmo, etc. The inner surface of the cylinder liner is sometimes nitrided or phosphated to improve the wear resistance. The hardness of the inner surface of the cylinder liner is higher than hb200, and has a good match with the hardness of the piston ring. The inner surface should also have proper roughness to make it have certain oil storage capacity and running in performance. The inner surface has enough roundness and cylindricity accuracy, and the mounting support surface should have higher position accuracy of the inner hole center.
