The role of Ferro Silicon in steelmaking

In steelmaking, Ferro Silicon is used for:

Product Properties - Ferro Silicon is a convenient way to add silicon as an alloying element to improve various properties of the final steel.
Slag Reduction - In stainless steel manufacturing, the presence of silicon reduces chromium oxide in the melt, improving the recovery of metallic chromium.
Deoxidation - Ferro Silicon rapidly removes oxygen from the melt, avoiding the presence of oxide inclusions and avoiding the loss of desired elements.
Fuel - Some steel mills add Ferro Silicon to the melt to burn it for heat into the furnace, reducing energy costs.
