ultra-compact DWDM is based on TFF platform. A series TFFs are attached to a glass or metal base. Multiple wavelengths incident to the filters at certain angle with one wavelength pass through while all other bands of wavelength are reflected. To make it ultra-compact, folding mirrors are used and light path is zigzag form. The integrated optical and mechanical components are then tightly packaged. The function of such DWDM device is to combine multiple wavelengths into single fiber or send different wavelengths to separate fibers. The device works uni- or bidirectional. Multiple fibers are coming out from the same side of device to make the fiber management easier.
