Outdoor 24 Core OPGW Optical Fibre Composite Overhead Ground Wire
Definition of OPGW fiber optic cable
OPGW is a dual functioning cable performing the duties of a ground wire and also providing a patch for the transmission of voice, video or data signals . The fibers are protected from environmental conditions (lightning, short circuit, loading) to ensure reliability and longevity. The cable is designed to be installed on transmission and distribution lines to carry voice, data and video communications, especially in lighting waveform monitoring system, an observation system for overhead test line, maintenance data information system, power line protection system, power line operation system, and unmanned substation monitoring
Characteristics
1) compact and lightweight OPGW designs in order to reduce influences of wind and ice, and
to minimize loading of the towers of the power line grid
2) By protecting the opticing fibre using a gel filled stainless steel tube which has a high radial thermal
resistance, OPGW temperatures up to 300℃ can be allowed in a single phase short-circuit situation
3) high strength / small diameter OPGW designs by selecting the right type and size for the
aluminium cladded steel wires in the center of the structure
4)designs with properties that maximally approach those of conventional earth wires in
order to meet short-circuit requirements and to ensure secure operation of the power line circuit
