FA-TCS12L13-20D & FA-TCS12L15-80D, 1.25G MSA Compatible SFP Transceiver, Dual Fiber Optic Transceiver With LC Connector, 20-80KM
MSA is the short name of SFP Transceiver MultiSource Agreement; it is a cooperation agreement for Small Form-Factor Pluggable Transceivers. It define many major elements and characteristics like mechanical interface Package Dimensions, Cage and Electrical Connector System, Host Board Layout, Electrical Interfaces, and Front Panel Bezel Requirements of SFP/SFP+.
MSA is a very important agreement for SFP (SFP+) because it provides a supplier standard to the buyer and helps them to purchase standard products. And it also ensures the compatibility of the SFP transceivers in a large part.
Based on freedom choice, buyer should have the benefit of multiple independent suppliers, they compete with each other to gain more market so this behavior forces optical transceiver suppliers to be as efficient and creative as possible, lower costs and provide customers with the widest options.
But MSA is not the newest standard, it was handed over to SFF and named as INF-8074i and SFF extended the SFP-MSA agreement and the extended agreement is SFF-8472.
