If wetting of the filter occurs after the patient has been connected, the line should be inpspected carefully by a qualified technician to see if any blood has passed through the filter. If any fluid is visible on the machine side, the machine should be taken out of service at the end of the session so that the internal filter can be changed and the housing disinfected.
