ePTFE venting membrane for wearable smart devices
Traditional wearable devices, such as electronic watches, generally only need to be resistant to liquids like soapy water, hand sanitizer, sweat, and rain. To achieve the necessary waterproofing for everyday functions, it is sufficient to seal the entire device. However, with the advancement of chip technology, wearable devices have entered an era of intelligence, adding features like voice interaction, health measurement and management, and environmental sensing. The application scenarios have become more complex, and internal components such as microphones, speakers, high-density batteries, and sensors have been added.
Traditional methods of sealing the entire device no longer meet the needs of intelligent products. Sealing the entire device can lead to a pressure imbalance inside and outside due to the heat generated by electronic components, which can hinder the speaker from functioning properly. Pressure imbalances may cause damage to components under pressure or even result in the failure of the overall seal.
XINNA offers ePTFE (expanded Polytetrafluoroethylene) waterproof breathable membranes, possess natural hydrophobic properties and an extremely high porosity, combining waterproofing with breathability. They help wearable products achieve deep waterproofing, allowing submersion in water between 1 to 100 meters for 30 minutes without water ingress. At the same time, the material's excellent breathability allows the device to "breathe" while sealed, promptly balancing temperature differences and pressure imbalances caused by compression, protecting internal components and the sealing structure. It also prevents the speaker diaphragm from vibrating poorly due to pressure imbalances, thereby enhancing the overall sound quality of the device.
