Anodizing
Aluminum and aluminium alloys can form a layer of oxide film naturally in the atmosphere, but the film is thin, porous, amorphous, non-uniform and discontinuous, which can not be used as a reliable protective - decorative film.
The thickness of the oxide film obtained by anodic oxidation is generally 5-20 microns, and the thickness of the hard anodic oxide film can reach 60-2500 microns. The film also has the following characteristics.
1.Higher hardness
The hardness of pure aluminium oxide film is higher than that of aluminium alloy oxide film. Usually, the hardness of pure aluminium oxide film is related to the composition of aluminium alloy and the technological conditions of electrolyte during anodic oxidation.
2.Higher corrosion resistance
This is due to the high chemical stability of the anodic oxide film. The anodic oxide film of pure aluminium has better corrosion resistance than that of aluminium alloy. This is due to the inclusion of alloy components or the formation of metal compounds that can not be oxidized or dissolved, resulting in discontinuity or voids in the oxide film, thus greatly reducing the corrosion resistance of the oxide film. Therefore, in order to improve its corrosion resistance, the oxide film formed by anodic oxidation must be sealed.
3.Strong adsorption capacity
The anodic oxide film of aluminium and its alloys is porous structure and has strong adsorption capacity. Therefore, filling various pigments, lubricants and resins in the hole can improve the protection, insulation, wear resistance and decoration performance of aluminium products.
4.Good insulation performance
Because it does not possess the conductive properties of metals, it becomes a good insulating material.
5.Strong thermal insulation and resistance
The thermal conductivity of anodic oxide film of aluminium and its alloys is much lower than that of pure aluminium, and its temperature resistance is about 1500 degrees Celsius, while that of pure aluminium is only 660 degrees Celsius.
