Description
Gorelink Fiber optic attenuators, also called optical attenuators, are passive device used to reduce the amplitude of a light signal without significantly changing the wave form itself. They are used to reduce the power level of an optical signal of a fiber optic cable by up to 30 dB. A fiber optic attenuator is a device used to reduce the power of an optical signal within a fiber optic system. It offers low reflection, high mode stability and a variety of attenuation values. Generally, It is applied in single-mode systems, especially the long-haul DWDM network links, fiber optic attenuators are necessary for balancing the optical power during the transmission.

Applications

Network Testing and Troubleshooting:
Used to simulate real-world signal degradation or test receivers' tolerance to various levels of signal strength.
Helps simulate the signal loss that can occur in long-distance fiber links, allowing for easier simulation of real-world conditions.
Power Management: In fiber optic systems, there are certain devices (e.g., photodiodes, optical receivers) that can be damaged or distorted if exposed to too high of a signal. An attenuator ensures the signal is within the safe operational range for such equipment.
Calibration: When calibrating fiber optic systems (like optical amplifiers), attenuators are used to reduce the input power to a manageable level, ensuring that the equipment operates within optimal parameters.
