Description

Tranter GC26 PHE Unit For Small Pressure Drop Plate Frame Heat Exchanger Spare Parts

Plate Heat Exchanger Introduction

In the PHE the plates create a frame where the plates are pressed with headers and tie bars, and the seal is guaranteed by gaskets. Gaskets, in addition to their sealing effect, serve to direct the flow of the fluids, and are placed along the grooves at the edges of the plates.

The maximum temperatures used for sealing heat exchangers are between 80℃ and 200℃ while pressures can reach 25 bar.

Gaskets are available in various types of butyl or silicone rubber.

The main characteristics of these types of heat exchangers are:

- quick and easy dismantling for cleaning and control operations

- adaptation to variable operating conditions by adding or removing heat plates to modify the installed thermal flow

- any fluid leaks due to non-perfect sealing of the gaskets do not contaminate the other fluid but are directed away

- materials that are poorly adapted to soldering, such as titanium, may be used

- the gaskets limit the maximum pressure and temperature values

- potentially high costs due to the design of moulds, presses and all the production process

- high cost of the gaskets

GC Series Plates

GCP Plates

Applications where low pressure drop is required or unit sizing is limited by pressue drop(low theta) are a perfect match for the GCP Series plate.

GCP Series plates are designed with a conventional herringbone pattern, with the gasket groove in the bottom plane. The plate design uses parallel flow direction, in contrast to the GX Series, which features diagonal flow across the plate. Due to the deeper draw depth and the pattern in the flow distribution area, the GCP Series plates yield a significantly lower pressure drio than the corresponding GX Series plates. Both high and low theta versions are available in all three GCP Series plates. This allows the flexibility to satisfy a wide range of applications.

Standard plate materials are EN 1.4301(304SS), EN 1.4401(316SS), and Titanium, but requirements for Hastelloy C-276, 254SMO or other cold-formed alloys can be accommodated. Standard gasket materials are NBR, EPDM and Flouroelastomer.

GCD Plates

GCD Series plates are ideal for applications with very small temperature difference, GCD-016, GCD-044 and GCD-054 plates are designed with a conventional herringbone pattern, a diagonal flow direction and with the gasket groove in the bottom plane.

Standard plate materials are EN 1.4301(304SS), EN 1.4401(316SS). Standard gasket material is NBR.

GC26 Gasket Choice

Glued Gaskets

M&C plate gaskets are specilly moulded elastomers to assure superior performance.

Numerous gasket materials - NBR, EPDM, Viton, Neoprene, Butyl.Hypalon, Teflon-encapsulated NBR and others - are available to match your process conditions, to maximum operating temperatures of 180℃.

Clip-on Gaskets

Consider the M&C Clip-on glueless gasket system wherever regular cleaning is necessary or aggressive fluids shorten gasket life. The unique design allows easy and fast clip-on installation for sure sealing and simple removal.

The clip-on is available in NBR and EPDM, both industrial and FDA ratings. These precision gaskets are moulded under rigorous manufacturing controls and are peroxide-cured for long life and excellent compression set resistance.

GC26 Plate Heat Exchanger Advantage with Shell- and -tube exchangers

Why fill up your engine room with heavy, bulky equipment, when efficiency and economy are vital factors?

A plate heat exchanger from M&C is only about 1/3 of the size and 1/6 of the weight of a shell- tube exchanger of comparable performance. Even if it may seem reasonable to invest in a tube exchanger, this would have a much higher life cycle cost than a plate heat exchanger.

One reason is that the heat transfer properties of a plate heat exchanger are 3 to 5 times higher. Another is the close temperature approach which is as low as 1 ℃.

Efficiency pays off!

A plate heat exchanger offers many advantages compared with conventional shell-and-tube exchangers

  • Up to 50% more efficient
  • Up to 90% more compact
  • 3-5 times higher k-values
  • Unique turbulent flow design
  • Closer temperature approach - as low as 1 ℃
  • Far less material needed - less use of exotic alloys or titanium

Plate Heat Exchanger Advantage

  • Much smaller footprints
  • Lighter weight
  • Easier installation
  • Removable heat exchanger surfaces for effective cleaning
  • Faster heating or cooling with less energy fluid
  • Turbulent flow for better scaling resistance, greater reliablility
  • Less steel, lower purchase price, shorter lead time and less expensive delivery

How to Provide Plate Heat Exchanger Maintenance?

Plate heat exchanger maintenance is provided through two distinct methods:

  • Clean in place (CIP) on-site maintenance.
  • Authorized cleaning facilities off-site maintenance.

The basic difference between these two methods is not how, but where and who performs the maintenance. CIP is performed in the manufacturing plant for quick recovery and continued equipment use, and it usually is performed by the person in charge of maintenance. Utilizing and authorized cleaning facility for maintenance requires removing the equipment and shipping it to a facility outside the plant where certified maintenance personnel service the plate heat exchanger. A closer look at each method will help shel light on which is best.

CIP Maintenance.Because of the advantages of quick turmarounds in a maintenance cycle, CIP is an attractive maintenance method. It is faster, more convenient and simple. It is also a preferred cleaning method when especially corrosive liquids are being processed. Typically, a CIP operation would be as follows:

  • The plate heat exchanger unit is turned off.
  • All fluids are drained from the unit. Single-pass units are self-draining. Multi-pass units may require special drain holes.
  • The preselected cleaning solution is circulated through the unit in a bottom-to-top flow to totally flood the unit and prevent channeling. When it is determined that the solution is no longer reacting with the substances inside the unit, the cleaning is complete.
  • The unit is drained of the cleaning solution and, if necessary, rinsed with water and put back online.

Authorized Cleaning Facilities. The disadvantages of the authorized cleaning facilities tend to be measured by the up-front cost and rarely for the real advantages achieved.

At an authorized cleaning facility, each plate is logged and visually inspected to determine if it merits reconditioning. The client is informed if any plate is underviceable and why. The facility cross-checks its databased to conirm the plate heat exchanger's original specifications and then conducts a close visual inspection of gaskets and contact points on the remaining plates to determine if there is any erosion or apparent change from the original specification. Then the precise cleaning and treatment process required is determined.

Plates are pressure-washed, rinsed and subjected to either hot caustic stripping and/or a manual procedure for gasket and scale removal. They are subjected to immersion in a variety of acids compatible with the plate material to remove the balance of any foulants. Cleaned plates are fully visually inspected and a 10 percent sampling of plates are dye-penetrant tested. Each tested plate is sprayed with dye and inspected under eltraviolet light to locate any pin-hole leaks or cracks. Following this procedure, plates again are pressure-washed and rinsed to remove all traces of the dye.

Plates are then re-gasketed with an OEM-spec gasket adhesive that eases field repair should it be required. Plates receive a thorough inspection before being packed and shipped. Units are hydrostatically tested prior to shipment.
