Description

CuNi10 NC015 2.0811 C70700 CuNi Alloy Copper-Nickel Alloy Wire for Marine Environments Heat Exchangers and Electrical Systems

CuNi10 is a copper-nickel alloy containing approximately 90% copper and 10% nickel, known for its exceptional resistance to corrosion, particularly in seawater environments. It also offers good strength, ductility, and high thermal conductivity, making it ideal for a variety of demanding applications. The alloy is commonly used in marine engineering, power generation, and chemical industries, where its resistance to both seawater corrosion and biofouling is highly valued.

In marine applications, CuNi10 is employed in seawater piping systems, heat exchangers, condenser tubes, and shipbuilding components, as it is highly resistant to corrosion and fouling. It is also used in chemical processing, particularly in equipment exposed to aggressive chemicals and high temperatures.

Additionally, CuNi10 is used in heat exchangers in power plants and desalination facilities, owing to its ability to perform reliably in harsh environments. In coinage, its durability and aesthetic qualities make it a popular choice for producing corrosion-resistant coins.

This alloy also finds use in electronics for connectors and resistors due to its moderate electrical conductivity and mechanical strength. CuNi10’s combination of corrosion resistance, strength, and workability makes it a versatile material in industries where durability and longevity are essential.

Some key features of CuNi10 include:

Composition

  • Copper & Nickel Basis: Primarily composed of copper with a significant nickel content.
  • Minor Alloying Elements: Contains small amounts of other metals for property enhancement.
  1. Mechanical Properties

    • High Strength: Exhibits excellent tensile and yield strength.
    • Good Ductility: Easily formed and shaped without fracturing.
  2. Corrosion Resistance

Excellent in Various Environments: Highly resistant to corrosion in different conditions.

  1. Thermal & Electrical Conductivity

    • Moderate Levels: Possesses moderate electrical and thermal conductivity.

Applications:

1. Marine and Offshore Engineering

  • Seawater Systems: CuNi10 is highly resistant to seawater corrosion and biofouling, making it ideal for use in marine environments. It is commonly used for pipes, valves, and fittings in seawater systems aboard ships, offshore platforms, and desalination plants.
  • Heat Exchangers: CuNi10 is often used in the construction of heat exchangers that operate in seawater, as it offers resistance to corrosion and biofouling, which are common issues in marine environments.
  • Hull Components: In shipbuilding, CuNi10 is used in hulls and other submerged parts due to its excellent resistance to marine corrosion.

2. Heat Exchangers and Cooling Systems

  • Heat Transfer Equipment: The alloy's high thermal conductivity makes it suitable for heat exchangers, especially in applications such as power plants, refrigeration systems, and chemical processing, where resistance to corrosion and high thermal efficiency are important.

3. Electrical and Electronics Industry

  • Electrical Connectors: CuNi10 is used in the manufacturing of electrical connectors and components that require a balance between good conductivity and resistance to corrosion.
  • Resistors: Due to its specific electrical resistance properties, it is used in the production of resistance wires and some electrical resistors.

4. Coinage and Minting

  • Currency and Coins: CuNi10 is sometimes used in coinage, particularly for low-value coins, because of its durability and attractive appearance. Its corrosion resistance ensures that coins remain in good condition over time.

5. Chemical and Industrial Applications

  • Corrosion-Resistant Equipment: In the chemical processing industry, CuNi10 is used for valves, tanks, and piping where exposure to harsh chemicals, high temperatures, and corrosive environments is common.
  • Marine Engineering: The alloy is frequently used for making cathodes, anodes, and other parts in electrochemical processes, particularly in marine and offshore applications.

6. Architectural Applications

  • Exterior Facades and Cladding: In some architectural projects, CuNi10 is used for facades, roofing, and other cladding applications due to its aesthetic appeal and ability to resist corrosion, making it a good choice for coastal buildings or structures exposed to harsh environments.

7. Aerospace and Aircraft

  • Structural Parts: CuNi10’s strength and resistance to stress-corrosion cracking make it a suitable material for some aircraft parts and other aerospace applications where light weight and durability are required.

In summary, CuNi10’s excellent resistance to seawater corrosion, good mechanical properties, and high thermal conductivity make it an ideal material for a wide range of applications, especially in marine, industrial, and electrical fields.
