Monel 400 (UNS N04400 / 2.4360) is a nickel-copper alloy known for its excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, and good weldability. It consists of approximately 67% nickel and 30% copper, offering superior resistance to seawater, acids, and alkaline environments. This makes it ideal for marine, chemical, and aerospace applications. Monel 400 retains mechanical properties across a wide temperature range, with a melting point of 1,350–1,400°C. It exhibits good ductility, high fatigue strength, and resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Common uses include heat exchangers, pumps, valves, piping systems, and fasteners in harsh conditions. It can be hot- and cold-worked but is difficult to machine due to its toughness. Welding is best performed using Monel-compatible filler metals.
