The mineral composition of silica brick is a coexistent complex structure of tridymite, cristobalite, a small amount of residual quartz and vitreous formed at high temperature. Silica brick is an acidic refractory material. It has strong resistance to acid slag or acid melt corrosion, but has poor resistance to alkaline substances. It is easy to be destroyed by oxides such as Al2O3, K2O, and Na2O. Oxides such as FeO and Fe2O3 have good resistance. The higher softening temperature under load is an excellent characteristic of silica bricks, Silica bricks are stable in volume from above 300°C to close to the melting point (tridymite or cristobalite).
