Silica insulation brick is a kind of acid refractory material consisting mainly of scale quartz, calcite and a small amount of residual quartz and vitreous phase. Silica content in this brick is above 94%. True density 2.35g/cm3. It is resistant to acid slag. Higher high temperature strength. The initial temperature of load softening is 1620~1670℃. In high temperature for a long time without deformation.

Low thermal shock stability (water heat exchange is 1~4 times) with natural silica as raw material, plus an appropriate amount of mineralization agent, to promote the conversion of quartz in the billet into, scale quartz. It is slowly fired at 1350~1430℃ in reducing atmosphere. When heated to 1450℃, about 1.5~2.2% of the total volume expansion, the residual expansion will make the cut joints close, to ensure that the masonry has good air tightness and structural strength.

The raw material of silicon insulation brick is silica. The higher SiO2 content of silica raw material, the higher the refractoriness. The most harmful impurities are Al2O3, K2O, Na2O, etc., which seriously reduce the fire resistance of refractory products. The brick is made of silica with SiO2 content not less than 96% as raw material, adding mineralization agent (such as iron scale, lime milk) and binder (such as molasses, sulfurous acid pulp waste liquid), through mixing, shaping, drying, firing and other procedures.

It is mainly used for the partition of coking chamber and combustor of coke making furnace, regenerator chamber and cinder chamber of steelmaking open hearth furnace, soaking pit, refractory material of glass melting furnace and sintering furnace of ceramics and other kiln vault and other load-bearing parts. It is also used for high temperature load bearing parts of hot air furnace and acid open hearth furnace top.

The volume of scale quartz, calcarenite and residual quartz varies greatly at low temperature, so the thermal stability of silicon brick is very poor. During use, heat and cool slowly below 800℃ to avoid cracks. Therefore, it is not suitable to be used in furnaces with abrupt temperature changes below 800℃.
