9 Accessibility of Live Parts
9.1 General
9.1.1 To reduce the risk of unintentional contact that involves a risk of electric shock from uninsulated live parts and film-coated wire, an opening in an enclosure of an appliance or in a motor shall comply with 9.3.1 – 9.4.1 and Table 9.1.
9.2 Directly- and indirectly-accessible motor
9.2.1 A directly accessible motor is a motor:
a) That can be contacted without removing any part; or
b) That is located to be accessible to contact.
9.3 Application of probes
9.3.1 The probes referenced in Table 9.1 and illustrated in Figure 9.2 shall be applied to any depth that the opening permits and shall be rotated or angled before, during, and after insertion through the opening to any position that is necessary to try to contact an uninsulated live part or film-coated wire. If necessary, the configuration shall be changed after insertion through the opening. Configuration refers to positioning of the jointed portions of the probes.
