  1. Filtration Process: The self-cleaning filter operates in a similar way to other filters. The fluid containing contaminants flows through the filter housing or cartridge, and the filter media traps the particles, preventing them from passing through to the outlet.

  2. Accumulation of Contaminants: As the filtration process continues, the contaminants start building up on the filter media's surface, reducing the filter's effectiveness and causing pressure drop across the filter.

  3. Cleaning Mechanism: The self-cleaning feature comes into play when the pressure drop reaches a certain threshold or when a specific time interval is reached. At this point, the filter initiates the cleaning process to restore its filtration efficiency.

  4. Cleaning Methods: There are different self-cleaning mechanisms used in various self-cleaning filter designs. Some common methods include:

    a. Backwashing: The flow direction is temporarily reversed, and a portion of the filtered fluid is used to dislodge and remove the trapped contaminants from the filter media.

    b. Mechanical Scraping: Brushes or blades may be used to physically remove the contaminants from the filter surface.

    c. Pulse Jet or Air Cleaning: Compressed air or gas is used to create a pulse that dislodges the particles, which are then flushed out.

    d. Centrifugal Action: The filter uses centrifugal force to separate contaminants from the filter media and expel them.

  5. Waste Disposal: Once the contaminants are dislodged, they are typically directed to a waste outlet, which can be a drain or a separate collection container.
