An oxygen sensor, also known as an O2 sensor, is an electronic device located in the exhaust system of a vehicle. It is designed to measure the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gases and provide feedback to the engine control unit (ECU) or engine management system.

The oxygen sensor consists of a ceramic element with a platinum or zirconia coating. It is exposed to the exhaust gases, and as oxygen passes over the sensor, it creates a voltage signal based on the difference in oxygen concentration between the exhaust gases and the external atmosphere.
