Description

The number of teeth of the gear shaft is 85 and the weight is 1.6kg, The structure of gear shaft after normalizing is: F+S for hypoeutectoid steel, S for eutectoid steel, S+ secondary cementite for eutectoid steel, and it is discontinuous.

The main purpose of normalizing is to eliminate forging defects, make its composition uniform, good hardness and toughness, and improve the machinability of the material, but also to prepare the organization for quenching and tempering.

Normalizing is mainly used for iron and steel workpieces. In general, normalizing and annealing are similar, but the cooling speed is slightly larger and the organization is finer. Some steels with very small critical cooling rates (see quenching) can be transformed from austenite to martensite by cooling in air. This treatment is not normalizing and is called air cooling quenching.

On the contrary, some large section workpiece made of steel with higher critical cooling rate can not get martensite even when quenching in water, and the quenching effect is close to normalizing.
