About grade 420
Grade 420 is Martensitic stainless steel, to obtain the strength and hardenabilit of the martensitic grades, they have higher carbon content compared to other grades, and nigrogen is sometimes added to further improve the strength. The matensitic grade is magnetic and hardenable.
400 series stainless steel which is an alloy of iron, carbon and chromium. The stainless steel has a martensitic structure and iron element, so it has the magnetic properties.400 series stainless steel normally has high resistance to oxidation at high temperature, and compared with carbon steel, physical and mechanical properties are improved. The majority of the 400 series stainless steel can be heat treated.
