Introduction
The congealing point is a characteristic of paraffin products that is of interest to many paraffin users. This process is the temperature at which the
test sample cools to form congealed or stops flowing. At this temperature, petroleum wax may be solid or near solid, or semi solid, and is quite soft, depending on the composition of the paraffin or petrolatum being tested. When the sample is petrolatum, the congealing is related to the gel
structure of the sample when it is cooled.
The principle of congealing point testing is to melt the paraffin sample and stick the paraffin droplets to the mercury ball of the thermometer. A preheated flask is used as an air jacket to cool the petroleum wax adhered to the mercury ball at the rated speed until it condenses. The freezing point can be reduced by the thermometer temperature, and when the paraffin droplets stop flowing, the observed temperature is the congealing point.
The congealing point test instrument is also suitable for testing Vaseline.
