What is Chemical Vapour Decomposition (CVD)?
CVD full name is Chemical Vapour Deposition,is one of the most evolved and recently developed processes of making diamonds. The history of CVD cultivated diamonds can be traced back to 1952. William Eversole of the US Federal Silicon Carbide Company successfully grown cultivated diamonds with carbon-containing gas under low pressure conditions. The process as the name suggests involves using chemical vapour deposits to grow diamonds. In a small chamber, a diamond seed is placed which is exposed to a combination of gases. These gasses are then subjected to an energy source that forces these gases to condense and eventually deposit on the preexisting diamond seed. There are various versions of the chemical vapour deposition process like Low-Pressure CVD, Ultra-high vacuum CVD, Plasma enhanced CVD and Microwave Plasma Vapour Deposition.
